Old Guy

 

Old Guy, Oil 6x6. This is a quick oil sketch done from a photo of an older golden retriever, Sonny. I added the orange and blue to spice it up a bit and add some interest. Sonny has passed away since I did this painting ..great dog, but aren't they all.

The Sketch

Here is a quick sketch done with conte crayon and water. The beloved golden retriever. This is small 5" x 7". It is always good to sketch ....keeps the eyes, hands and mind working. 

Peet

 

Peet, Oil 6x6. I painted Peet Twice, the other painting, not shown here just had no life. I have tried out different painting surfaces, this one is a regular canvas with a bit of a tooth. The other surface I worked on was smooth canvas board, the paint acts different, this one won. It is strange sometime I like the smooth surface and sometime I don't .....

Small Paintings

 

Pears, Oil 5"x 7". This is a small painting done in my studio of three pears, that were in need of painting. The painting was fast and loose I try not to blend or go over brush strokes, keeps it fresh.

Donkey, Oil 6"x 6". This is from a photo I found and edited. Always keeping loose, also added a few other colors to make this pop.

Very small Paintings

 

This is a 3"x  5" Oil, I set up a still live in my studio for a few painters that come by each week to paint and this is what I came up with this week. I  picked up a few very small canvas panels and am having fun painting on them. When they are so small making a commitment to paint something is no big deal cause if it doesn't work out ...just repaint. SOLD

The 50/50 show ends September 30 2012, the shows closing show (scs) is from 1 to 5 on that day. It was fun painting the below fifty small painting.I did really well with the show. Since I have this blog I am going to post my other daily work here. Hopefully I will try next year with a new theme for the fifth annual 50/50 show.

Below is Lunch Dog, an oil I painted from a photo I took from my cell phone. While hanging out with my son, who goes to Cal Poly, and having lunch down in San Lusio Obispo, this dog came up to us, what a cool looking dog....I couldn't help but take a picture and do a painting.
